Make Your Dental Crowns Last a Long Time

Posted .

Dental crowns are fashioned in a process that makes them very tough. By bringing the substances that will comprise your crown to very high temperatures, workshops can contour the crown, set it and cure it, fashioning a product that will last for multiple years with appropriate care. So how long do dental crowns last? That depends on how well you’re using them and taking care of them.

Most dental crowns last for at least five years, and some can last for as long as 15 years. If you’re gentle with your dental crown, you can get the most mileage out of it. By brushing your pearly whites at least two times per day and flossing once a day, you’ll shield the crown’s supporting tooth and aid the crown to last more time. Avoid chewing hard candies and ice, which can remove the crown. If you have the tendency to grind your pearly whites during the night, or if you play sports, you should deliberate on donning a nightguard or mouthguard to protect your teeth and dental crowns from chipping. Never use your teeth for anything besides eating; i.e. no package-opening or finger-nail-biting.
